Participation at IPSA Conference on the Politics of Climate Change and Global Insecurities

On 13 March 2026, I will present my paper 'Cognitive Warfare, Disinformation, and Corporate Influence in Europe's Energy Transition: Information Control, Regulation, and Human Rights Implications' at the international conference 'Rethinking the Politics of Climate Change and Global Insecurities'.

The event is organized by Nagasaki University (Japan) in collaboration with the Research Platform on Planetary Risks (NUPPRI) and the Research Center for Global Risks (CGR) , together with Zayed University (United Arab Emirates) and the Research Committees RC44 (Security, Conflict and Democratization) and RC52 (Climate Security and Planetary Politics) of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) .

The conference will take place in hybrid format – both at Nagasaki University and online via Zoom – bringing together international scholars to discuss the ongoing transformations in security studies, with a focus on climate change, global health crises, and new forms of economic and political instability.

My presentation is part of Session 4 'Climate Change, Resource Constraints and Governance Strategies' , scheduled from 14:00 to 15:30 UTC (please check your local time). The session will be chaired by Susanne Martin with discussant Kenneth Christie (Royal Roads University, Canada), and will feature scholars from Brazil, Germany, India, Sri Lanka, and Portugal.

In my paper, I explore the dynamics of cognitive warfare, disinformation, and corporate influencein the context of Europe's energy transition, with particular attention to human rights implications and regulatory frameworks. The study, published in Applied Cybersecurity & Internet Governance (Vol. 4, No. 1, 2025), offers an innovative perspective bridging geopolitics, geoeconomics, and human rights through the lens of information operations. I argue that control over the digital 'battlefield of ideas' will shape Europe's capacity to lead the global energy transition, analyzing case studies involving state actors (China and Russia) and non-state actors, while assessing EU regulatory defenses such as the Digital Services Act.

This research contributes to the broader debate on how information control strategies and disinformation campaigns can influence public policies and social perception of the energy transition, raising crucial questions about transparency, democratic participation, and the protection of fundamental rights.

The conference will open with keynote speeches by Radomir Compel (Nagasaki University) and close with remarks by Hamdy A. Hassan (Zayed University), emphasizing the need to rethink traditional security models to include existential and human dimensions such as identity, fear, and social well-being.
